In the case of a linear relation between inflow and discharge and a constant factor for the reservoir volume, the duration line of the discharge is a curve corresponding to the inflow reduced by a certain percentage. If the reservoir volume factor remains constant, the duration line can be changed by varying the inflow/discharge relationship. An additional modification of the factor via the reservoir volume has the advantage of being able to respond to certain filling levels to prevent the reservoir from emptying or overflowing.
