Structural changes in the natural river basin and the management of the structures can have a significant influence on the water balance and must therefore be able to be represented in a river basin model. In reality there are a multitude of hydraulic structures, such as canals, dams, flood control reservoirs, stormwater retention basins, abstraction and discharge structures, weirs, hydroelectric power plants, etc. In the river basin model Talsim-NG these structures can be abstracted and calculated with the following four system elements:

The system elements reservoir and diversion offer the possibility to control your outputs with complex operating rules. In Talsim-NG hydroelectric power plants can only be mapped in the system element Storage. If a run-of-river hydroelectricity is to be mapped, the corresponding watercourse section must be defined as reservoir.
